Description
Poet's House is a house that was originally a farmhouse located at Little Barford, Bedfordshire. It dates from the late 15th century or early 16th century and underwent alterations in the late 16th century before being converted into cottages in the 19th century. The house was dismantled and rebuilt in Glatton around 1980 by Michael West. It features a timber frame reconstructed to its original Wealden form with plastered infill and a brick plinth. The thatched roof has a ridge stack positioned to the right of the center. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a restored open hall. The entrance has a boarded door with a two-centred arched head. There are three casement windows with wooden mullions on both the ground and first floors. The interior has not been seen. The original Wealden farmhouse was modified in the late 16th century to create a continuous jettied house by adding a floor and a first-floor wall to the hall, but these features were not reconstructed. Photographs from 1980 are held in the Historic Environment Record Office.
