Description
The Homestead and attached barn is a cottage and barn that was formerly divided into three cottages. It dates from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is timber-framed with exposed reversed assembly and plaster infill, while the barn is weatherboarded. It features half hipped thatched roofs, with a square planned ridge stack on the left, a small ridge stack, and a gable end stack on the right. The structure is one storey and has an attic, with a three-unit plan for the main range, a rear wing, and the barn forming an L-plan. There are two entrances: one has a six-panelled door and two sixteen-paned hung sash windows on the left, while the right side has a panelled door, a small hung sash bay window, and a twelve-paned six-light window. Additionally, there are two eyebrow dormer windows.
Inside, the building features exposed floor frames and open hearths in the central room and former kitchen. The room to the west includes 18th-century panelling and a chimney piece. Historical maps from 1613 and 1770 reference the Manor of Glatton and the surrounding estate.
