Description
The Cross Keys Hotel, located at No 13 Market Square, is a 17th-century building with a half H plan and wings at the rear. It was later extended eastward to include the former White Lyon Inn. The hotel has been refronted in red brick, with mid-18th-century additions that include bays. It stands two storeys high and features eight windows, with the 4th and 8th being splayed bay windows that have three lights and extend to the full height of the wall. The roofs are tiled and slated. The rear of the building is constructed from brick and plastered timber framing. A modern parapet with a band below is present, along with gauged flat brick arches over recessed sash windows that have glazing bars. There is a square-headed carriageway located below the third window and a modern wrought iron sign board. The hotel is part of a group that includes Nos 3 to 15 (odd).
