Description

Hill Cottage is likely a 16th-century cottage, possibly built on an earlier structure, constructed with a timber frame and plaster. It was later altered in the late 17th century, evidenced by the addition of chimney stacks. The cottage has a two-unit plan and a single storey with an attic. It has a thatched roof, half-hipped towards the road, with two ridge stacks. The front elevation features a boarded door and a single horizontal sliding sash window with glazing bars, along with a small fixed light window in the upper room. The interior includes a sealed inglenook hearth, a sealed three-light mullioned window in the east wall, and a section of the original door head beside a boxed stair. A tie beam connects to an open truss, and the roof retains original rafters with curved wind braces above each bay of the side purlin.
