Description
This is a group of four large tombstones located between approximately 14 and 17 metres south of the chancel of St Remigius Church in Water Newton. The tombstones are made of limestone and feature round plaques along with relief decorations depicting figures, urns, and angels. The tombstones are identified as A through D from north to south. Tombstone A has an unclear inscription; tombstone B is inscribed to Mary Norton, wife of George Norton, dated 1806; tombstone C is inscribed to George Norton, dated 1802; and tombstone D features a carved head and a basket of flowers with rose swags, inscribed to Edward Sculthorpe, dated 1810.
