Description

The Manor House is a house that was formerly a farmhouse and inn, dating from the early to mid 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is built from coursed limestone rubble, featuring freestone and ashlar dressings, and has Collyweston stone slated roofs. The building is two storeys high with attics and has a T-plan layout, including a stair turret at the angle and a single-storey gable end range to the south. The gables have parapets with chamfered copings and moulded corbels, which continue into moulded wooden eaves cornices with modillions.

On the north elevation, there is an ashlar band between the floors and a chamfered plinth. The entrance, which is a 19th-century gabled porch, features a glazed, panelled door and a rectangular fanlight, flanked by bay windows. The first floor has four cross framed windows, and there are three hipped dormer windows with casements. Some 17th-century mullioned windows can be found in the rear elevations, possibly reused from a hall that was demolished around 1730, along with a wooden door jamb that is carved with jewel ornament, also believed to be reused.

Inside, the south wing contains resited 16th or 17th-century panelling with an arabesque frieze, while the north wall has 17th-century panelling. There is a closed string staircase with turned balusters and square newels. The house was known as 'The Farmhouse' when it operated as an inn in 1742.
