Description
Hall Cottages is a row of five cottages that were originally outbuildings to The Hall, which was demolished around 1730. The cottages likely date from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and early 19th centuries. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble and feature plain ashlar buttressing aligned with the chimney stacks. There are two end stacks and five ridge stacks; the left-hand end stack is made of ashlar, while the others are brick. The roof is covered with Collyweston stone slates. The cottages are two storeys high and have a gabled rear wing, with parapet gables. There are six 20th-century doors, including one on the right with a porched entrance. The ground floor has nine windows of various sizes with glazing bars, and the first floor has eight similar casement windows, all featuring brick arches. The doorways are set in round-headed brick arches. The former building was converted into farm labourers' cottages in the early 19th century.
