Description

The Old Rectory is an early 18th-century house, originally the rectory for Water Newton, with later additions, including a porch dated 1894. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar and freestone dressings, and has collyweston stone slated roofs. The building is two storeys and attics, with a single-storey range extending to the right. It features parapet gables with brick end stacks and moulded corbels, mirroring the moulded stone eaves cornice. Other details include an ashlar band between floors and a chamfered plinth. The front features a dated stone porch with a chamfered two-centred arch and a glazed door with a reeded wooden architrave. The ground floor has two C19 hung sash windows with margin glazing bars, set within inserted flat ashlar arched heads. Three first-floor casement windows and three dormer windows, each with a boarded gable, are also present. Internally, original moulded ceiling cornices remain.
