Description

Mill Farmhouse is a house, originally a farmhouse, dating to the 17th century, with alterations and additions from the early and late 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with freestone and ashlar dressings, and has collyweston stone slated roofs. The original L-shaped plan has been extended to the west by one bay and to the south with an additional kitchen. A 19th-century entrance is located in the angle facing east. The north facade features brick and ashlar end and ridge stacks with chamfered copings to the parapet gables, and a chamfered plinth. The windows include a French casement, double-hung sash windows, and a canted bay window, with three 20th-century three-light casement windows on the first floor. The interior retains exposed chamfered and stopped ceiling beams, along with signs of 19th-century alterations to the original plan and staircase. Original 17th-century moulded boarded doors have had applied frames to imitate early 19th-century two-panelled doors. The house was once the miller’s house and is included on the list for its group value.
