Description
Hill Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, with two building periods, 19th century alterations, and 20th century renovation. It is constructed of limestone rubble and dressed limestone, with some reused brick in the rear elevation. The roofs are tiled from the 20th century and pantiled from the 19th century. The house features a red brick gable end stack on the left side and a red brick ridge stack, along with two rear gable end stacks.
The building is two storeys high with attics, consisting of a main range of three bays, a cross wing to the east that extends to the rear, and a single storey kitchen wing to the west. There is a gable end outshut to the west and a rear outshut. The main entrance is centrally located on the main range and features a six-raised and fielded-panelled door with two glazed panels, topped by a 19th century canopy supported on shaped brackets. The windows are 19th century replacements with rendered wooden lintels, including three tripartite hung sash windows on the ground floor and three on the first floor, as well as two casement dormer windows and one casement attic window.
Inside, there is an open hearth in the west room and an original cross passage, along with a bakehouse and brewhouse that includes a cooking hearth and a partly demolished oven. Most other interior details are largely from the 19th century.
