Description
La Cote d'Or Restaurant is an early medieval town house dating from around 1300. It features a timber-frame construction of three bays, which was originally jettied and is positioned at right angles to the street, with a side passage entry leading to the hall. A brick stack was added in the 17th century, and the roof was raised at that time. One original roof truss remains, and some of the original rafters have been reused. There are timber-framed additions to the south-west, likely from the 16th century.
The street facade, which dates to the early 19th century, is two storeys high, with a rendered timber frame and a plain tiled roof. It includes a large barrel shop window with glazing bars and a half-glazed shop door on the left side. There is also a plank side passage door on the south-east. Inside, the restaurant has exposed timber-framed walls and trusses, with two stop-splayed scarf joints featuring undersquinted butts and face pegs in the original wall plates.
