Description

This wall runs along the boundary of Upwood House, Upwood Manor, Ailwyn House, and numbers 60 and 62 High Street in Upwood. The wall largely dates to the late 17th century, with some sections from the 18th century, and the gatepiers are 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with broad mortar cornices on a thickened plinth, the plinth’s upper edge being moulded brick. The wall has gabled brick coping with a sawtooth cornice. The 18th-century sections of brickwork include more burnt bricks and a more uniform English bond. The gatepiers are 19th-century in style.
