Description
No. 5 Market Place is a house and offices built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of grey gault brick in Flemish bond, featuring stone details. The roof is hidden behind a parapet with stone coping and a moulded main cornice. The building has three storeys, with the main elevation and doorway facing the Market Place.
The attic storey has three recessed nine-pane hung sash windows above a plain brick band. The first floor features larger twelve-pane windows. The ground floor showcases chancelled rustication and a moulded band of stucco. There are three steps leading up to the doorway, which is set in a porch with rusticated piers. The doorway itself is in a round-headed arch and includes a fanlight with glazing bars. To the left of the doorway is an original canted bay, while to the right is a recessed hung sash window. The corner of the building has a blind round-headed recess with a raised surround above the doorway.
