Description
No. 2 York Row is a house built around 1797, part of a terrace that extends from the Crescent along York Row. This terrace is part of the planned circus of the Castle Estate, designed and constructed by Joseph Medworth between 1793 and 1816. The house is made of local brown brick and features a slate roof with a side stack. It has three storeys and a basement, with three bays.
The building has a stone-coped parapet and painted stone bands at the first and second floors. On the ground floor, there are three nine-pane hung sash windows set in cambered, red gauged brick arches with stone sills. The first floor contains three twelve-pane hung sash windows in similar openings, while the ground floor has two windows with half of their glazing bars removed.
The entrance features a wooden doorcase with a broken pediment and fluted half-round columns, leading to a six-panelled door and a fanlight with patterned glazing bars. There are two stone steps leading up to the door.
