Description

The two gate piers flanking the war memorial, originally part of the Castle Garden, date from around 1656. They are constructed of rusticated limestone and feature a deeply moulded cornice at the top, capped with ball finials. The piers were relocated to their current position at the boundary of the garden by Joseph Medworth around 1800. This information is documented in G. Annis's "A History of Wisbech Castle" from 1977 and in measured drawings by R. Walker from 1983.
