Description

This is a corner house built around 1797, part of a terrace that extends from the Crescent along York Row, and is a component of the planned circus of the Castle Estate, designed and constructed by Joseph Medworth between 1793 and 1816. The house is made of local brown brick with a slate roof and a side stack. It has three storeys and a basement, featuring three 'bays' on both street facades. The stone-coped parapet includes painted stone bands at the first and second floors, and there is a plastered plinth.

On the Crescent facade, there are two recessed nine-pane hung sash windows set in cambered gauged red brick arches with stone cills, along with one painted blind window. The second floor has two twelve-pane windows in similar openings and one blind window. The ground floor has three hung sash windows without glazing bars. The York Row facade mirrors this window pattern but does not have any blind windows. The first-floor windows have had half of their glazing bars removed. The main entrance is located to the left in a recessed round-headed red gauged brick arch with two stone steps, featuring a 19th-century four-panelled door and a plain fanlight.

Inside, the house retains its original closed string staircase, panelled doors, archways, and window-cases. There is one Adam style chimney piece and two from around 1900.
