Description
Cherryholt Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of roughcast brick and features a steeply pitched pantile roof with coped gable ends and a rendered brick axial stack. The layout consists of a three-room plan with an entrance lobby in front of the axial stack, which has back-to-back fireplaces heating the parlour on the left and a central hall. The right-hand bay includes a staircase at the front and an unheated room behind. There is likely a rear outshut that was added later.
The exterior is one storey with an attic and presents an asymmetrical three-window south front. On the ground floor, there are three 4-pane sash windows in segmental-headed openings, with a doorway located to the left of centre. The roof at the rear extends over a continuous outshut, which has a doorway to the left of centre.
Inside, there is notable 18th-century joinery and some 19th-century features, including panelled doors, some of which are fielded and others are two-panelled. The parlour has a panelled partition with a pilastered overmantel, and there are panelled partitions in the hall. The outshut contains fielded dado panelling and fielded arch panelled cupboard doors. An 18th-century open-well staircase features a moulded string, balusters, handrail, and square newels, with balustrades at the top. The chambers have panelled partitions, one with a dentilled mantel shelf, both with two-panel doors. The parlour includes a chamfered cross-beam with convex stops, while the hall has a chamfered cross-beam without stops and a fireplace with a 19th-century cast-iron range in a 19th-century chimneypiece. The roof structure has not been inspected. It is noted that some of the 18th-century interior joinery may have been imported from another house.
