Description
North House is a house dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, constructed of local red brick with plain tile roofs. It is two storeys tall and has an L-plan layout with a symmetrical facade featuring five bays. The building has parapet gables with end stacks, a plinth, and a band at the first floor, all constructed in English bond brick coursing. The main entrance features a half-glazed 19th-century door, while the ground floor has four recessed twelve-paned hung sash windows, and there are five similar windows on the first floor, all set within segmental brick arches. Inside, the house boasts a fine closed string oak staircase with barley-twist balusters and shaped finials on all newels. The interior also includes stop-chamfered and moulded ceiling beams, a corner hearth in the left-hand rooms, and a large cooking hearth in the rear kitchen.
