Description
The Chestnuts is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, featuring a three-room plan. Originally, it may have been timber framed, but it now has painted yellow gault brick walls. The cottage has a thatched roof made of reed, with gable end parapets, one of which displays the initials I.A. in wrought iron. It is one storey high with attics and has three gable dormers. There are four windows with segmental arches, including three hung sashes that have glazing bars. The rear range is also constructed of brick and thatched. In the late 18th century or early 19th century, this wing was extended. Inside, there are two small inglenooks and some timber framing in the partition walls, while the rest of the walls are made of brick.
