Description
Breeds Farmhouse is a cottage originally built in the mid 17th century with a lobby entry plan, later extended by one bay to the south in the late 18th century. The building is timber framed and plaster rendered, featuring a steeply pitched roof that was originally covered with reed thatch but is now topped with corrugated iron. It has a ridge stack made of yellow gault brick, along with an end stack from the 18th-century extension. The farmhouse is one storey with an attic, showcasing three gabled dormers and three windows and doors, all of which are 20th-century. The late 18th-century extension is constructed of brick in English bond. At the rear, there is another wing, likely from the late 18th century as well, made of brick with a pantiled roof, probably serving as a service wing with a granary in the gable. Inside, the floor framing is visible, revealing some reused early 16th-century joists. The roof features side purlin construction with plaster torching beneath the thatch. In the 18th-century extension, there are raised and fielded panelling and shaped shelving in two cupboards flanking the hearth.
