Description

The Tithe Barn, located to the west of and adjoining Church Farmhouse, dates back to the 16th century. It is an aisled structure that is timber-framed, partially plastered, and weatherboarded, with original brick foundations. The roof is half-hipped with a gablet on the west side, covered with slate on the north elevation and asbestos sheeting on the south.

The barn features a cross-entry with large double doors facing south, which are divided for lower doors, and retains its original thrashing floor. It consists of four bays, with each truss supported by arched braces connecting jowelled posts to tie beams and arcade plates, along with braces to the aisle tie beams. The arcade plates display face halved scarf-joints, while the aisle plates are assembled in reverse with the aisle tie beams and posts, which is an unusual characteristic. The roof structure includes side purlins and original rafters.
