Description
56 to 60 St Mary's Street is a range of 18th century yellow brick houses, possibly incorporating an earlier structure. The buildings are two storeys high and feature a six-window range of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, set in flush eased frames. The doorways are adorned with wooden doorcases; No 56 has a reeded architrave and cornice, while Nos 58 and 60 have pilasters and cornices. Nos 56 and 60 also have six-panel doors. The roofs are covered with old Cambridgeshire tiles. This group of houses, along with Nos 20, 22, 22A, 20 to 30 (even), 34, 36, 36A, 38, and 40 to 60 (even), forms a cohesive architectural group with Nos 13 to 29 (odd) and 29A, Parson's Almshouses, and Nos 1 to 5 (odd) Downham Road, as well as with Nos 20, 22, 22A, 24 to 30 (even), 34, 36, 36A, 38, and the Parish Church of St Mary.
