Description
This is a mid-16th century house, later used as a shop and dwelling, with additions dating to the 16th and 17th centuries at the rear. The original timber-frame was once exposed but is now concealed by a painted brick front facade. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with pantiles, featuring an original red brick ridge stack with grouped shafts on a square base. The house has a single-range plan with a lobby entry. It has two storeys, with the first floor initially jettied, now supported by brick. The windows are largely 19th and 20th century replacements, but the original doorway remains in its original position opposite the stack. At the rear, a small gabled wing, likely from the late 16th or early 17th century, is present, along with a possible stair turret. A timber-framed service wing addition is located at the south end. Inside, the hall and parlour display leaf foliage moulding to the main beams and middle rail. A partition wall separating the service end from the hall has been removed. Recent restoration work uncovered a three-light window with hollow and roll moulded mullions. A brick stack was inserted into the smoke bay in the late 16th or early 17th century.
