Description
The Old Courthouse is a former magistrates court and offices, likely a police station, built in 1858. It is now a house. The building is constructed from gault brick and features low pitch, slate roofs. The layout includes a single storey office or police station at the front and a two storey courtroom at the rear. The office has chanelled rustication on the quoins, walls, and voussoirs of the window arches. The low pitch roof has a parapet. The front wall has three round headed bays, each with a band at impost height. Each bay contains a recessed fixed light window with a pivot casement. The courtroom at the rear is made of similar brick but lacks the rustication and has a hipped low pitch slate roof. It is two storeys high with pilaster strips at the corners and between the two bays on the side elevations. Each bay features round headed arches leading to two fixed light windows with pivot casements. The main entrances are located in flanking porches at the front of the slightly projecting courtroom.
