Description
Tunbridge Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early and late 17th century. It was originally the manor house of St Omars manor. The building has two storeys and attics. The early 17th century cross-wing to the north features clunch with quoins and a parapet to the west, which has been rebuilt in small local, late 17th century bricks. It has flint foundations and a brick band to a stepped clunch plinth, with some original ovolo mullioned casement windows alongside 19th century or modern replacements. The range to the south is from the late 17th century, constructed with small local bricks laid in English bond, and includes a brick plinth, a sawtooth eaves cornice, and a parapet gable to the south. The roof was raised in the 19th century on the front elevation, and the windows are either sealed or have later 19th century replacements, with one original casement featuring lattice lights in the south gable. The farmhouse has two fine square stacks with sawtooth cornices and one or two blind round-headed arches on each face. The stack to the right behind the ridge has lower courses of clunch. The front elevation displays three three-light casement windows on the first floor and three ground floor casement windows. The cross-wing has two stone mullioned three-light casement windows. The main entrance is located to the left of centre and features brick pilasters that support a projecting hood made of three recessed brick courses with a lead cover. It is possible that the cross-wing served as the parlour wing to an earlier hall that was replaced in the late 17th century by the south range. Inside, there is a large sealed cooking hearth and exposed floor framing.
