Description

The Stretham War Memorial is a war memorial unveiled in 1922, dedicated to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. It is made of Ketton stone and features a Celtic cross on a square plinth with a four-stepped base. The front (east) side of the plinth has the inscription: ‘TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF STRETHAM WHO FELL / IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 / (NAMES)’. A stone slab on the third step is inscribed with ‘1939 - 1945 / (NAMES)’. The memorial is located within the churchyard of the Church of St James, directly opposite the village cross, both of which are listed at Grade II*.
