Description
Three wall-mounted street lamps known as Richardson Candles are attached to the north side of Bene’t Street. These lamps were designed specifically for Cambridge City by Sir Albert Richardson in 1957 and manufactured by the REVO electrical company. Each lamp features a vertical, tubular lantern made of translucent glass, which holds three or four fluorescent tubes. The lantern is topped and based with simple cast-iron elements and is mounted to the wall using a pair of plain metal brackets at each end, with the lower bracket embossed with the word REVO. The lamps are affixed to the buildings numbered 2, 6-8, and 9 Bene’t Street, all of which date to the early 19th century and are listed at Grade II.
