Description

STOREYS WAY TL 45 NW 667/20/10017 Central Buildings Churchill College GV II Central building, containing dining room and kitchens, common rooms, boiler house, college offices and main entrance. 1961- 68. Sheppard Robson and Partners. Brown brick and concrete, both pre-cast and board-marked. 2 storeys. Irregular 'H' plan, with dining hall forming the link between two parallel ranges. Dining hall on upper floor but rising above other parts, topped by three segmental barrel vaults. Pre-cast concrete sunscreen with pre-cast mullions below vaults. Dark timber panelling internally. Horizontal strip windows to lower buildings with timber frames including thick timber horizontals. A pair of giant brick piers mark the entrance which is recessed between them; pivoting entrance gate of aluminium by sculptor Geoffrey Clarke. An integral part of Churchill College planned layout. N.
