Description

No. 31 Madingley Road is a house built in 1932 by Marshall Sisson, showcasing the Early Modern Movement style. The building is constructed of red brick with concrete dressings and features a flat felted roof. It has two storeys that rise to three storeys at the west end, with an eight-window range. The entrance is a recessed doorway located to the right of the center, featuring a timber and metal door beneath a concrete lintel and flat hood. To the right of the door is a two-light timber casement window, while five similar windows are located to the left under a continuous concrete lintel adorned with two longitudinal grooves.

On the first floor, there are seven similar casement windows and an additional single casement window to the right, all beneath a matching lintel. The second floor of the raised west end is illuminated by four similar casement windows. The building has a plain parapet and a flat roof, with a partly external stack on the east side. The south front presents a ten-window range, with the first-floor windows arranged in a continuous frieze under a grooved concrete lintel, similar to the ground floor, which is also interrupted at intervals by French doors.

Inside, there is an open-well staircase with a chromium handrail, and the ground-floor doors feature brown painted surrounds. The kitchen cupboards and fittings remain intact.
