Description
The Old Guildhall on Wheeler Street features two wall-mounted street lamps known as Richardson Candles. These lamps were designed specifically for Cambridge City by Sir Albert Richardson in 1957 and manufactured by the REVO electrical company. Each lamp consists of a vertical, tubular lantern made of translucent glass, which houses three or four fluorescent tubes. The lantern is topped and based with simple cast-iron components and is mounted to the wall using a pair of plain metal brackets at each end. The lower bracket is embossed with the word REVO. These lamps are affixed to the south-east elevation of The Old Guildhall, which was designed by Peck and Stephens in 1862 and is also listed at Grade II.
