Description
Cockethurst Farmhouse is a 16th to 17th century red brick house located on Whitehouse Road in Eastwood. The building features distinctive Dutch gables at both the north and south ends, and a wing extends to the west at the south end. It is two storeys high with attics and has a four-window range on the east front, showcasing double-hung sash windows with glazing bars set in plain reveals. A central brick porch with a Dutch gable adds to its character. The roof is tiled and has a mansard design, complete with three gabled dormer windows and a chimney stack featuring grouped rectangular shafts. This farmhouse was home to Samuel Vassal in the early 17th century and remained in the Vassal family until the death of Asser Vassal, the last of the line, in 1808.
