Description
The walled enclosure to the west of Lovin House is a Grade II listed structure dating from the 18th century, which incorporates a re-used late 17th-century gateway. This irregular quadrilateral enclosure features brick and stone walls that stand approximately 2.5 meters high. The east wall is topped with moulded stone coping. There are two gateways located in the east and west walls, both aligned with the central axis of the garden front of Lovin House.
The east gateway consists of a pair of rusticated rendered brick piers, each capped with a moulded stone cornice and ball finial. The west gateway is made from re-used 17th-century masonry, featuring a rusticated surround with a flat arch, recessed rusticated jambs, and a plain lintel. Above the flat arch is a shallow pediment with corona moulding. This gateway is positioned as the terminal feature in the axial view from the house, enhancing the overall design of the garden.
