Description
The Railway Goods Shed, located about 250 yards southeast of Helpston Crossing, was built in the mid to late 19th century by the Midland Railway for the Syston and Peterborough line, which opened in 1846. The structure is made of red brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof with gabled ends. The eaves at the roof extend at both the front and rear, supported by large cast iron shaped brackets. This two-storey building has a window arrangement of 1:2:2:1, with small windows set in rusticated round arches. There are three ground floor doorways on each side, with an additional door above on the first floor. The upper doorways on the southwest side are accompanied by platforms with balustrades, also supported by large shaped cast iron brackets. The building has three bay ends, each featuring a circular louvred ventilator in the gable.
