Description
Orchard House, located at 15 Thorpe Road in Peterborough, was built in 1829 by Dr. Skrimshire and remains largely unaltered. The house is constructed from Whittlesey brick with stone dressings and features a porch. It has a double hipped slate roof that overhangs at the eaves. The front elevation consists of two storeys with three windows, each topped with flat brick arches and glazing bars. The porch includes a stone pediment, cornice, and piers, with brick sides and a stone plinth. The centre section of the façade recedes slightly, and there are brick chimneys. The rear elevation is similar to the front, but the centre window is blocked.
Inside, the three principal reception rooms retain their original mantels and woodwork, along with a mahogany stair rail. Historically, the house has been occupied mainly by doctors, including Dr. Xayden Keeton from 1881 to 1921, who was known internationally as a music teacher, with Sir Malcolm Sargent among his pupils.
