Description

PETERBOROUGH 1. 1500 THORPE R0AD No 15 (Orchard House) TL 1898 NE 4/153 II 2. Built in 1829 by Dr Skrimshire, and substantially unaltered. Whittlesey brick, stone dressings and porch. Double hipped slate roof, overhanging at eaves. Front elevation of 2 storeys. 3 windows, flat brick arches, glazing bars. Porch with stone pediment, cornice and piers, brick sides. Stone plinth. Centre section recedes slightly. Brick chimneys. Rear elevation is similar but centre window is blocked. Interior:- The 3 principal reception rooms have original mantels and woodwork0 Mahogany stair rail. History:- Occupied principally by doctors and, from 1881 to 1921, by Dr Xayden Keeton who had an international reputation as a music teacher. Sir Malcolm Sargent was one of his pupils.
