Description

The Old Gaol, built in 1842, is located on Thorpe Road in Peterborough. Designed by architect W J Donthorne, this building is constructed in the Norman style using stone and features a slate roof. The central entrance tower is flanked by two round turrets and has machicolations. Above the door, which is set in an arched portal, there is a portcullis. On either side of the entrance, there are three large round-arched windows, each with flanking colonettes. The round turrets at the corners of the facade rest on battered plinths.
