Description
The Chapter Office, located in the precincts of Peterborough, is a Grade I listed building dating from around 1500. It features two storeys and is topped with a stone slate roof. The front elevation includes two bays, each with one double-hung sash window that has glazing bars. There is a door with a segmental arched head and an ornamental fanlight. The third bay contains a three-light mullion window on the first floor and a four-light window below, along with a small arched doorway. One bay is blank.
Adjacent to the Chapter Office is No 18, which occupies two bays. This section has two windows with 18th-century double-hung sashes featuring glazing bars on the ground floor. Above, there is a two-light window over a 19th-century doorway that has moulded shoulders and a flat arched head. The third bay has a six-light window on the first floor and two modern windows below. A buttress with an angel corbel is present in the quoin. At right angles, there are four blocked arcades. The Chapter Office and No 18 are part of a group that includes the Deanery, Canory House and Wall, Table House, Infirmary, and Nos 16 to 20.
