Description

The Deanery, located within the Peterborough Precincts, largely dates to 1875-8, though elements may originate as early as the 12th century. It is primarily a two-story brick building with attics, displaying gables and windows with segmental relieving arches and brick herringbone infill. A modern bow window has been added to the ground floor. A small, cusped-treaded window is positioned above the doorway. Three stone chimneys are present. The east half of the interior contains a late 13th-century hall characterized by tall, shafted windows with shaft rings. Further to the west is likely a former kitchen, featuring a large north-facing fireplace and a wide, late 12th-century arch supported by shafts with waterleaf capitals. The Deanery is historically grouped with Canory House, the associated wall, Table House, the Infirmary, numbers 16 to 18 (consecutively), and number 20, as well as the connecting wall.
