Description
Hostry Passage and Little Dorter are the ruins of a refectory located in the precincts of Peterborough, dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries. The refectory features a wall vaulted in 14 bays, with remaining shafts and springers. It has blank arcading adorned with varied paterae and stiff leaf designs. The first six bays are from the 13th century, while the next five bays have been built up with later masonry. Three bays remain unblocked, showcasing 14th-century transom windows. The 12th bay includes an archway, and the last two bays were part of the Little Dorter. The Little Dorter, situated to the west of the south end of Hostry Passage, is a square building with two quadripartite rib vaults, originally part of an attachment to the Dormitory. The garden walls, gates, former outbuilding, wall to the north, and mounting block, along with Laurel Court, Hostry Passage, Little Dorter, Great Cloister, and Well, form a group of significant historical structures.
