Description
The former railway station, built in 1848 for the opening of the Great Northern Railway loop line, features later alterations and extensions. This Italianate building is constructed from gault brick and has low-pitched hipped slate roofs with wide eaves. The main section facing the railway is single-storey, with a low gabled entrance canopy over a recess that contains a round-arched doorway and a tripartite round-arched window on the left. To the right, there is a three-storey tower topped with a pyramidal roof and round-headed windows. The platform has been dismantled. At the rear, there are one and two-storey wings with gabled and hipped roofs at varying heights, creating a stepped profile that ends at the tower roof.
