Description

This is a range of terraced buildings at 29-37 King Street, dating from the 1860s. The buildings are constructed of Luton grey brick with a Welsh slate roof. They consist of two similar three-storey blocks that follow the upward slope of the street. The buildings have a plastered parapet, divided into five bays — three to the lower block and two to the higher — by plain pillars. A heavy, moulded eaves cornice runs along the top. The second floor has fifteen sash windows, each with a slightly arched, shouldered architrave surround and bracketed sills. The first floor also has fifteen taller sash windows, set within stucco surrounds with arched, corbelled frames and heavy keystones. Balconies are present with corner pilasters. The ground floor is heavily vermiculated and sits beneath the cornice. Window and door openings are slightly arched, with tripartite vermiculated keystones.
