Description

The gatescreen at the entrance to the Swiss Garden in Old Warden is believed to date from the early 19th century, during the time when the 3rd Lord Ongley (1803-1877) was developing the garden. It is made of wrought iron and features a fairly plain design. The structure consists of a series of archways, with the arches decorated with a restrained geometric pattern. The screen and double gates are simple grilles with curved tops, and each spike is topped with a plain finial.
