Description

This is one of a pair of entrance lodges situated at the northwest entrance to Henlow Park, dating to the later 18th century with a 19th-century extension. The lodge is constructed of red brick with a hipped clay tile roof. Originally a small, square two-story building, it was extended by one bay to the south. A colourwashed rendered string course runs along the first-floor level of all elevations, and a wood modillion cornice runs along the eaves. The west and east elevations feature central semi-circular recessed panels in the original block, each containing a window on both floors; the ground-floor window has a flat gauged brick head. The east elevation retains a sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor. Other windows are 20th-century casements set in original openings. The 19th-century extension replicates the style but lacks the recessed panels and retains only one original sash window. A brick gate pier projects from the centre of the north elevation, with stone coping aligned with the first-floor string course, topped by a ball finial. To the left of the gate pier is a front door with four fielded panels, set within a doorway with a gauged brick flat head. A red brick central ridge stack is present. A 20th-century single-story addition stands to the south.
