HENLOW Henlow Pump House

Pump House. 1897. Hexagonal plan structure comprising 6 timber posts with curved braces supporting pyramidal 6-sided hipped roof, tiled and capped with metal flashing rising to a decorative finial. Roof structure has tie beam with king post. Portland stone horse trough carries the inscription: 'This well was built by the people of Henlow / to commemorate the 60th year of / Queen Victoria's reign / open on the 29th date of September 1897' HISTORY: Henlow was connected to the mains water supply less than ten years after construction of the pump house. The mechanical pump was removed in 1926 and the well capped.

A well-designed piece of village furniture close to the Grade I Church of St. Mary, and a celebration of the Diamond Jubilee.
