Description
Nos 57 and 59 on Bedford Road are a house that likely dates from before 1800, as indicated by a date plaque reading "G.T. 1800" (Godfrey Thornton). The building features colourwashed roughcast, probably over a timber frame, set on a high plinth. It has a thatched half-hipped roof.
On the ground floor, there are two 2-light casements with glazing bars, while the first floor has two 2-light casements with semicircular heads; the lower parts have glazing bars and the upper parts feature leaded lights. The central round-headed doorway is fitted with a 20th-century glazed door and is topped by a gabled hood supported by cut brackets. A red brick multiple ridge stack is present, and there is a 20th-century block that projects from the rear.
