Description
Lodge Cottage, located between Froxfield and Lower Berry End, is a Grade II listed building. It is a cottage built in the early 19th century, likely designed by Sir Jeffry Wyatville for the 6th Duke of Bedford. This cottage orne style structure is made of colourwashed brick and features a hipped roof covered with 20th-century tiles.
The building has a T-plan layout, consisting of one storey and attics, with a semi-octagonal bay that projects from the front. The front elevation includes a roof over the projecting bay that extends forward to create a verandah supported by rustic timber. The central door, which has a cambered head, is adorned with twigwork herringbone decoration. Flanking the doorway are two-light casement windows, also with cambered heads. In the attic, there is a central hipped dormer that contains a semi-circular two-light window, and the casements feature honeycomb leading.
On the side elevations, there are canted bay windows on the ground floor and hipped dormers in the attic, all of which also have honeycomb leading. The cottage is topped with two red brick ridge stacks.
