Description

This statue group is located at the south end of the South Vista in Southill Park. It is a Grade II listed feature and is part of a collection of statuary created by Sir Henry Cheere, which was purchased in 1812 by Samuel Whitbread II. The lead figure group depicts Samson slaying the Philistine and is a copy of the original work by Giovanni Bologna. The statue stands on a Coade stone plinth, with the entire structure reaching approximately 3 metres in height.
