Description
Portobello Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century, with a significant extension added in the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, with the original section built in English bond and featuring many vitrified bricks. The roofs are covered with clay tiles. The earlier part of the house has a three-room plan and consists of two storeys and attics. The late 19th-century extension is a two-storey block located at the northern end of the east elevation.
The west (front) elevation showcases a variety of casement windows, some of which have leaded lights. There are two windows on the ground floor, four on the first floor, and one in the attic. The attic window is set in a gabled dormer that protrudes above the eaves line. A 20th-century plank door is located beneath a simple gabled hood supported by brackets. A red brick multiple ridge stack serves two rooms on the right-hand side. Projecting from the left-hand bay is a shallow single-storey gabled block, built with similar brickwork to the main structure. There is also a late 19th-century single-storey lean-to that aligns with the ridge stack. Adjacent to the right gable end is a row of single-storey outbuildings from the 18th century, constructed of red brick and topped with clay tile roofs.
