Description

A barn dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, likely built for the Bedford Estate, stands approximately 80 metres north-west of the farmhouse at Hundreds Farm. The barn is timber-framed and features weatherboard cladding on a brick plinth, with brickwork to the front, and a corrugated asbestos roof. It comprises five bays with a front aisle. A central cart entry is located within a gabled midstrey. The rear elevation includes a central winnowing door, a wide board door at the right end, and a hatch with a board door positioned between them. Each return side has a door. Inside, the timber frame is complete, exhibiting a sole plate, wall posts with slight jowls and bolted knee braces to the beams, an arcade plate, wall ties in the aisle, staggered mid-rail, studs, raking braces, queen strut roof trusses with principal rafters, staggered butt purlins, straight wind braces, pegged rafters without a ridge-piece, and carpenters marks. The farm was established sometime between 1738 and 1771, when wheat was being threshed, as evidenced by records at the County Record Office.
