Description

This statue group, located approximately 30 metres south of the central block of Southill Park, is a Grade II listed structure. It is part of a collection of statuary created by Sir Henry Cheere, which was purchased in 1812 by Samuel Whitbread II. The lead figure group represents the Rape of Proserpine and stands on an octagonal Coade stone plinth, with a total height of about 3 metres. This statue is a copy of a work by Girardon found in the grounds of Versailles.
