Description
Nos. 17 to 25 on High Street are a row of houses dating from the 16th and 18th centuries, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The houses have a timber-framed structure, with nos. 17, 19, and part of 21 being quite substantial. No. 17 and no. 19 are faced in colourwashed render, no. 21 has colourwashed brick infill, no. 23 features colourwashed rubble facing, and no. 25 is finished with colourwashed brick. The roofs are covered with clay tiles. No. 17, which was originally one property with no. 19, has a gable facing the road and is jettied at the first floor level. The other houses form a block with a four-room plan. They are one storey high with attics, featuring mostly 2 and 3-light casement windows, many of which have leaded lights, and there are five gabled dormers. Each doorway has a five plank door and brick steps leading up to it. No. 17 has a substantial chimney breast with a diagonal stack projecting from the left-hand side, while the other properties have a variety of yellow brick ridge stacks.
